Kate Middleton’s Mother’s Day photos were a longtime favorite tradition for her fans, but it seems like she’s taking a longer break from them than expected.
Fans couldn’t help but notice that the Princess of Wales chose not to post a new portrait of herself and her three children for the UK’s Mother’s Day this year. Instead, she and her husband, Prince William, shared a tribute to his late mother, Princess Diana. Though fans enjoyed the tribute, some put together that there hasn’t been a viral portrait of Kate and her children since her photo-editing scandal in her portrait two years ago. Kate Middleton & Prince William Share A Mother’s Day Tribute For Princess Diana Instead Of A New Snap With Their Kids
This past Sunday, residents in the UK celebrated Mother’s Day, and those who are big supporters of the Royal Family tend to look forward to the tributes shared, especially for Princess Catherine.
Mother’s Day portraits and tributes for the mom-of-three haven’t quite been the same since she revealed her cancer diagnosis in 2024, the same year she ‘disappeared’ from public events and the public eye. Making matters worse, royal photographers seemingly shared a portrait that looked Photoshopped, increasing fans’ worries for the Princess.
Last year, the family came back strong with a nature-inspired video of the 44-year-old and her family posing in nature. However, this year, there were no new photographs or portraits of her, and instead, Prince William shared an old photograph of his iconic late mother, Diana, and him as a little boy.
“Remembering my mother, today and every day,” he wrote. “Thinking of all those who are remembering someone they love today. Happy Mother’s Day.”

Fans React To Prince William's Post & Kate's Absence
After seeing that there was no new post involving Kate and the three young royals, there were numerous internet users who couldn't help but assume it had something to do with the Photoshop and editing scandal from 2024.
Around the time the photo was posted, people were already anxious about the health status of the future queen, as it was shared right after she revealed she had "abdominal surgery" and was missing from public events. Then, it quickly caused a scandal, as people analyzed that it had been edited with significant tweaks and mistakes, leading them to wonder if something worse was going on with the princess behind the scenes.
Therefore, once users noticed she was missing from this year's 'Prince & Princess Of Wales' Mother's Day Instagram post, they tied the two events together.
"[She] didn't want to embarrass herself again," commented a user.
"Maybe after the way the media savaged her Mother's Day photo in 2024, when she was battling cancer, she has decided not to offer a photo," speculated another.
"Would have been nice to share a photo," added a user.
