Having an iPhone is a privilege, but it’s no secret that it can get really annoying when the battery begins to die.

If you plug in your phone whenever it’s low throughout the day or at the end of each one, you probably assume you’re doing everything right. But there’s actually a good and bad way to charge your iPhone. As we head into 2026, many people still don’t realize that small daily habits can drain battery health, slow down your device, and shorten a device’s lifespan. Read more about two iPhone charging mistakes you should let go of in 2026 below.

1. Charging In A Warm Environment

Charging your iPhone in a hot or warm environment might seem harmless, especially if you have it just sitting on a sunny kitchen counter or in your car for a bit. However, heat is one of the fastest ways to degrade battery health and shorten an iPhone's lifespan.

"High heat during charging is the battery's enemy," explains tech pro Alex Kugell. "Charging in a hot car or an especially thick case makes it more likely your battery will heat up. Heat is the biggest contributor to battery degradation, speeding up the breakdown of the internal materials. Battery management in general is a largely overlooked longevity skill."

2. Keeping Your Phone Plugged In At 100%

One of the most common charging habits people have is letting their smartphone charge and stay plugged in on their bedside table. Oftentimes, they don't unplug it after it reaches 100% battery life, letting their device charge for too long.  This is a rookie mistake, according to tech pros.

"One of the worst charging habits users still have in 2026 is treating lithium-ion batteries like old-school batteries," notes cyber expert Michael Crapis. "Modern smartphone batteries degrade fastest when they sit at extreme charge levels for long periods. Keeping your phone at 100% overnight every night, especially in warm environments, accelerates chemical aging inside the battery."
